Week 3 Blog: Undirected

I chose this picture of the votive statues because I found it interesting of how the characteristics of the worshipper statues symbolized certain aspects of importance in their culture such as religion. I think even still today art is definitely used to express one's love of their religion or views on religion. I thought it was interesting how the eyes were big to represent their full attention and almost a gaze of awe at the god or goddess statue they were facing and worshipping. Although the book did not say why, but I also thought it was interesting that the men were stocky and broad shouldered with big legs and feet and the woman were just as big and massive. My thought for this would maybe be that before a god or a goddess men and women were seen as equal no matter what the gender of the worshipper or maybe it was just an equal society between men and women? I'm not so sure, but I definitely don't think that was just a cocidence. 

Art History: 5 pieces of art assignment

I am always looking at the clock and impatient when things go slowly. I chose this picture because I feel like I tend to do this a lot. I am always on the go and if I'm not then I am waiting on something or someone. I like punctual people and it drives me nuts when people are late or if I'm running late. I am at my best when I am multi tasking and have five things on my plate instead of just focusing on one thing. Sometimes my impatience gets the best of me and I mess things up or make a mistake because it would have been better to just wait it out, but sometimes I can't help myself. I am a very fast pace person.

For my second picture I chose a very simple chair. This shows the very simple side of my personality. I don't need a lot of gidgets and gadgets or cool show off colors. I prefer things that are very simple and there's not a lot to them. Much like a simple wooden chair, what you see is what you get. I feel like the more complicated things are the more conflict and confusion arises. I am very black and white and don't like a lot of grey areas. 

For my third picture I chose a mother lion and her cub. My family has always been a huge part of my life, and my mother in particular. A lion always reminds me of her and how she raised us. She raised my brother and I to be very strong and independent just like a lion would raise her cubs. I look up to my mother and try to be a least a sliver of who she is.

For my fourth picture, I  chose a photograph of a park in New York City. This picture illustrates my love of nature and the big city. I grew up in a small town surrounded by forest and nature and our "family vacations" consisted of back packing or camping in the wilderness.  Although I grew up around and loving nature I also always have an itch to be in the big city. I love the fast pace life and culture. A park is a perfect example of serene nature in the middle of city. It's the best of both worlds.

For my fifth picture I chose a black flower painting by Georgia O'Keefe. The black flower

represents the bolder side of me. A flower is very feminine and fragile, but the color is very bold and powerful and I this is a big part of my personality. People see me as a dainty feminine girl and are often put off by my bold personality and assertiveness.
